(Junior High)-Sixth Through Eighth
Change, challenge, and growth are key words of the Middle School years. Students graduate completely from self-contained, or partially self-contained, classroom situations to changing classrooms and teachers for the academic subjects (math, science, social studies, language arts, reading, and religion). Computer technology instruction centers on learning and increasing competence in word processing (Microsoft Word), use of spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), database (Microsoft Access), and presentation software (Power Point). Library Media Center classes focus more specifically on attaining age- and grade- appropriate competence in information literacy skills (locating, accessing, evaluating, synthesizing), which support the students both in their current academic pursuits and as life-long learners. Eighth graders complete a formal research paper project. In addition, Sixth graders participate in music and art classes. Six, Seventh and Eighth graders study a world language, which is currently Spanish. Seventh and Eighth Students use the Rosetta Stone language program to enhance the classroom instruction. Middle School students also participate in award-winning enrichment programs such as D.A.R.E. (drug awareness), as well as in service projects, and local interscholastic academic competitions. The self-confident, well-rounded, and spiritually well-grounded student is the goal all Middle School teachers work toward achieving.
Both computer and information literacy skills are taught and integrated into the curriculum in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. This is facilitated by a state-of-the-art computer lab and Library Media Center, as well as by having internet-accessible computers in the classroom, and two mobile carts housing thirty-two wireless laptops. In addition, students study and have additional enrichment in the fields of music, art, and Spanish. The physical well-being and health of our students is fostered through weekly physical education class, and through the daily availability of the school’s registered nurse.
